Web Of Wisdom

Two Crimson studied Ancient Greece in Term Three. We were enthralled by the myth of Arachne forever doomed to weave only as a spider, after her boastful claim as a human that she was a better weaver then the goddess Athena.
Using gum tree sticks and wool we wove our own webs and made plasticine spiders.

We enjoyed playing a weaving game at circle time - a fabulous game of cooperation and coordination. One person holds the end of a ball of wool. They throw the ball of wool across the circle. The other person must catch the ball, hold onto a piece of the wool and then throw the ball back across the circle. If you are wonderful at cooperating you end up with an amazing web! (And yes, our photos show how wonderfully we cooperated).

Last term we had the opportunity to please Athena by making clay owls, her precious symbol.
This Term we are studying the Environment. Using our skills as web weavers and are marvellous cooperation, we have created this amazing web. Our colour choices are planned. Do you know what the colours represent?

Now our owls can nest safely near our web. We hope you enjoy our installation!

Space-Up

One White’s- “Space-Up”
        Rockets and Aliens in Boxes

As part of our Unit of Inquiry on Space each student in One White created an alien creature or a space rocket using recycled material. After looking at a photo of the amazing installation “Give A Dog A Bone” 1996 by Fiona Hall in the Contemporary Museum of Art (Sydney) we were inspired to place our recycled creations into “space boxes”.

The following photos show how our artwork evolved over time.
1.
We We made our creations from recycled material at home and brought them in to school. Here are some examples:

  Jessica’s alien
  Owen’s alien
 Scarlett’s rocket
Next we painted our boxes, decorated them and placed our alien or rocket inside our boxes.

 Jasmine’s alien in a box

Anna’s alien in a box

3.          Finally we stacked our boxes for our art exhibition. We hope you have enjoyed viewing “Space-Up”.

Woolbrella

Since Term Two, the children from One Silver and the ‘Wool Works” club have been slowly adding colourful creations to this beach umbrella.

First we learned how to make a pom pom using two cardboard rings. The more wool you add the fluffier the pom pom.

Next we challenged ourselves with French knitting. It was a little tricky in the beginning, but with persistence it got a lot easier.

We hope you enjoy relaxing under the “Woolbrella”’.

Being an Individual

One Green-‘Being an Individual’

We were inspired by Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures. Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor.
In pairs, we planned what our sculptures would look like. Each of the children made an individual pose while the other child created the sculpture out of pipe cleaners.

We stapled their sculpture to a piece of square cardboard.

Then the children used tiny pieces of papier mache to cover their design.

After they had dried the children painted them in silver.

We loved that they all looked different!
